BridesDecide.com FAQ
Why mix politics with weddings? With more than 12 million nearlyweds and newlyweds in our communities of TheKnot.com, WeddingChannel.com, TheNest.com, and TheNestBaby.com, we felt that it was our responsibility to create a site for this huge pool of potential voters and provide basic election coverage, as well as an educational platform that promotes political discussion.
Why the name BridesDecide.com? While we realize that not all of our readers are brides -- many of them are newlyweds and new parents -- the core of TheKnot.com brand still remains to be weddings. (Besides, it's catchy.)
How were the "issues" on the site chosen? Before its launch, the editors of BridesDecide.com conducted an informal poll of its brides and newlyweds, asking them what the most important political issues are to them. Among the most popular answers were health care, the war in Iraq, immigration, and abortion rights. The editors at BridesDecide.com added women's rights and same-sex marriage because we feel like these are two issues that directly affect and play a role in many of our members' day-to-day lives.
Is BridesDecide.com affiliated with a specific presidential candidate or party? The purpose of BridesDecide.com is to educate its 12 million users about the presidential candidates and the candidates' basic political stances on issues important to its members. That said we do not endorse any specific candidate or political party.
Why do you only have a handful of the candidates' wedding stories? The editors at BridesDecide.com have contacted all the presidential candidates, and have asked them to submit their wedding photos and stories. The wedding stories that appear on the site are from those candidates that have responded to our inquiries. We hope that all the candidates will submit their weddings!
What's the goal of BridesDecide.com? The goal of BridesDecide.com is to motivate our members -- engaged couples, newlyweds, and new parents -- to vote in the 2008 presidential election. We also want to encourage our members to make educated voting decisions, and it is our hope that BridesDecide.com provides a platform from which our members can gather basic knowledge of the candidates and the candidates' stances on the issues at hand. Finally, we want to provide our members with a destination to share their political opinions.
