Sam Brownback

Officially dropped out of the race: October 19, 2007

Where's he from? Hailing from the Midwest, Sam Brownback was raised in a farming family in Kansas. Sam received his undergrad degree at Kansas State University and went onto pursue a law degree at The University of Kansas. He worked for a short time as a broadcaster, and then became an attorney.

What's his background? Before being elected to The House of Representatives, Brownback served as the Kansas Secretary of Agriculture. He was elected to the House in 1994, and then ran and won a special senatorial election to replace then-presidential hopeful, Bob Dole.

What's he known for? As a senior senator, Brownback is well known for having spearheaded the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, which allows for stronger federal law enforcement in human trafficking cases, such as abduction and coercion.

Hot issues? Brownback is a strong proponent for border security, media responsibility, and energy independence.
